Art 235: Project 1 - Creative Strategies
This is part of a project I created during my studies at BYU-Idaho. I was given seven creative strategies and had to create an image to represent each of them with a single object. Here are some of the images I created below.
Here are some of my initial sketches I created
COMBINATION
Combination is the taking two images and putting it together to create a completely different object. For my image I combined a wooden spoon and a hammer to create  a new object.
JUXTAPOSITION
Juxtaposition is showing how two things are different. I put a shovel and a spoon together as one object to show how the two are different even though they could both be used to scoop things up or mix things.
ISOLATION
Isolation is showing how something is alone or stands out from the others. This image includes a wooden spoon in the midst of plastic spoons which helps the wooden spoon to stand out from the rest of them.
METAPHOR
Metaphor is a way of saying that an object is one thing that it clearly is not. Wooden spoons obviously do not grow roots, but the roots show growth or creation like a wooden spoon can be used to create something in the kitchen.
CHANGE OF ENVIRONMENT
Change of environment is putting an object in a completely different place. Wooden spoons do not belong as hands of a clock, so for my project I put the wooden spoons to show the hands of a clock.
PHYSICAL SIMILARITY
Physical similarity is showing how to things are physically similar. I created a flower out of wooden spoons in my image for this project. The wooden spoon is the same shape as the petals and the stem.
MATERIAL, SWAP OR FOCUS
Material, swap or focus is where you take something from something else and replace it with something completely different. For my project, I took a stem of a rose and put it with the top of a wooden spoon.
